Our Favorite Summer 2019 Moments

Summer has finally come to an end. We are beyond ready for all things fall, but wanted to take a look back at some of our top moments of the summer before we officially move on. Summer is always one of the craziest times of the year travel wise. There’s something exciting about summertime even as adults that makes you want to cram in as many fun vacays as possible.

From traditions we have with our friends like a weekend canoeing and camping trip to exploring new places like Seattle and wine country in Cali, to meeting up with friends and family where ever that takes us, we’ve managed to squeeze a lot in as usual! Here are some of the highlights.

A reluctant, yet exciting move away from New Orleans

The start of Summer was a kind of wild! I (somewhat reluctantly) packed up my entire life in a U-Haul and moved to Houston, TX. Being away from NOLA has been a whirlwind of emotions; but ultimately it’s been a fun change of pace. There is so much to explore and can’t wait to continue sharing it with y’all. – Alessandra

Visiting Scribe Winery in Sonoma, CA

This is hands down the most beautiful winery I’ve ever visited. The tasting at Scribe is a little pricier but comes with generous pours and lots of yummy bites. Making a reservation in advance is a must for this one. -Maggie

This Sandwich from Model Bakery in St. Helena, CA

Model Bakery is known in Northern Cal for their amazing breads and pastries. You will spot their bread on menus throughout the region, but stopping by the the actual for one of their breakfast sandwiches, is highly recommended. I went back for this veggie sandwich a second time! – Maggie

Visiting the Desert for my First Time

A new job brought new adventures to Sedona, AZ. If you’re looking for a getaway that is very different to anything you’ve ever done, I highly recommend hopping on a flight to Phoenix and driving to the Sedona desert. The views are breathtaking, the food is delicious, and you’ll cause so major #Instaenvy. – Alessandra

Stepping back in time at The Clift Royal Sonesta in San Francisco, CA

The old world glamour of The Clift Royal Sonesta is inspired by the classic luxury hotels of the early 20th century & made us feel like we were SF in the Gatsby era.⁣ It’s also surprisingly affordable for the location. Even if you’re not staying at The Clift, a drink at their legendary bar The Redwood Room is a must while in the city. – Maggie

Discovering Expresso Martinis

Up until this summer, I had never drank an Espresso Martini before! Whoa y’all, I am now obsessed. It’s the perfect brunch drink because it will get you feeling nice and boozy, but it will also give you tons of energy. I have NOLA-born Chef Dom Lee at Poitin to thank for introducing me to these tasty libations! – Alessandra

This cute diner in Minneapolis, MN

If you think back reallyyy hard, you may recognize this diner from Mighty Ducks (yea, we went there lol). But, that’s not it’s only claim to fame as many a celeb have been to Mickey’s Diner as well. The diner is inside of a vintage train car to resemble railroad dining cars of the time it was built. It’s nothing fancy at all, but a classic for late night breakfast. Open 24 hours/ 365 days a year in downtown Minneapolis! – Maggie

Tales of the Cocktail events in New Orleans, LA

We always get so excited to drink way too much for several consecutive days at all of the amazingly executed events at Tales of the Cocktail. This year did not disappoint! Alessandra flew in from Houston and we partied at the Garden of Elyx with Absolut Elyx, with Monkey Shoulder at Central City BBQ, with MR BLACK at Couvant and had the most fun Prohibition style tea at Windsor Court. – Maggie & Alessandra

A visit to dreamy Seattle

Seattle was dreamy. I think this photo enraptures what that weekend really was about; ocean views, Aperol Spritzes, and finally being able to wear leggings, cardigans and hats!

An annual tradition with friends I grew up with

Every year since high school, a group of my girlfriends and I have been going on an annual weekend trip where we spend the weekend “camping” in a cabin and canoeing. It’s only a short drive from New Orleans in a small town in Mississippi and is such a great time to leave off just where I started with so many amazing women and have way too many White Claws while doing it! – Maggie

A super fun girl’s weekend in Houston

We couldn’t stay apart too long so we got together at the end of August for a weekend to explore Alessadra’s new home town! Highlights included all of the Tex-Mex food. Still can’t stop thinking about the fajitas and margs from El Tiempo and the lunch special Chicken Verde Enchiladas and steak tacos at Superica. There’s also such a fun bar scene there! Some of our faves were Wicklow Heights, Monkey’s Tail for night caps and Lei Low for tiki drinks. Also can’t get over our stay at the beautiful Hotel Alessandra (it’s really called that, yes)! – Alessandra & Maggie
