Brunchin’ in Houston

Ah, brunch! It’s the best meal of the week – includes some sort of boozy libation, delicious food, and is usually followed by a Sunday nap.

Despite having lived in Houston for only 5 months, I’ve quickly learned that Houston LOVES brunch! Houstonians love brunch so much they’ll do it on Saturdays and Sundays, they’ll stand in line for hours for restaurants that don’t take reservations, and at some places, they go hard with DJs and live music.

Here are some of my favorite places to brunch so far,

Ouzo Bay

River Oaks District – 4444 Westheimer Rd

Why I love it: Ouzo Bay is the perfect brunch place for when you want to go all out; you dress up and you get ready to eat, drink and party. Their new brunch features fabulous brunch items with a mediterranean twist, and the DJ booth will have you wishing you had more days in the weekend!

What you need to order: Their $49 bottle of Veuve Cliquot Rosé – a deal you can’t find anywhere else! They also feature specials on other rosés on Saturdays + Sundays from 11AM-3PM. PS: don’t miss their Brioche French Toast with blueberry custard and berry compote!

Poitin

Washington Heights – 2313 Edwards St

Poitin Houston Brunch

Why I love it: Poitin is a modern Irish bar and Southern kitchen, with global influence throughout, but most importantly, their Executive Chef – Dominick Lee – is from New Orleans, and he’s the coolest person I’ve met in Houston so far!

What you need to order: their Espresso Martini & Praline Bacon! You can brunch all weekend long at Poitin: their brunch menu is available Saturdays + Sundays from 10AM – 4PM.

Tiny’s No. 5

West University Place – 3636 Rice Boulevard

Why I love it: When I first moved to Houston, everyone told me I needed to go to Tiny’s! It’s a Houston brunch institution and worth all of the hype.

What you need to order: Their famous chocolate chip cookies – they are to die for!

BB Italia

Memorial – 14795 Memorial Dr

Why I love it: Although I don’t live near BB Italia, I will be coming back many, many times. Why? Because I am obsessed with Italian food and brunch items with an Italian twist are simply genius.

What you need to order: Their Breakfast Pizza. They had me at “pizza”, but then I read Nutella. Need I say more?

Also notable is their Whipped Ricotta with truffle honey, hazelnuts and grilled bread. Prepare to eat all of the delicious carbs at BB Italia!

Egghaus

Shady Acres – 2042 E T C Jester Blvd

Why I love it: Because sometimes you don’t want to wait for the weekend, or 11AM for brunch! Egghaus is an all day (7AM-3PM), everyday brunch spot. Not only is their food delicious, it’s so pretty too! Get your cameras ready for the perfect #brunch insta.

What you need to order: Their egg sandwiches and croissants! Honestly, their whole menu is divine.

We accept the brunch we think we deserve, y’all. Make sure you’re brunchin’ good.

XO,

Alessandra
