It’s gonna be another hot one babes! One of our keys to surviving New Orleans’ summers is consuming our alcohol intake as many frozen forms as possible. If we’re out and about, you’ll find us cooling down with a frosé from from Willa Jean.
As we plan summer BBQ’s, we’ve been in our test kitchen perfecting boozy popsicles. We know our friends will enjoy these adult pops while sweating their asses off in our backyards this summer. They are not only a refreshing treat, but also delicious, fun to eat and not shy on the alcohol content. The secret is, you’ve got to eat it fast if you don’t want popsicle dripping down your arm like a child who just returned from the ice cream truck. It’s not a good look so (eat/drink?) up!
The pops take a while to freeze so you’ll want to make them at least a day in advance. We ordered these super cute and easy red, white and blue popsicle molds from Amazon Prime – perfect for the Fourth of July!
Watermelon Margarita Pops
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup tequila
- 3 limes juiced
- 5 – 6 cups watermelon cubed (about half of a melon)
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup fresh mint (optional – we have some growing outside so this makes an easy add in)
Instructions
Combine the water, sugar and mint in a pot to make a mint simple syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil to dissolve the sugar for about 1 -2 minutes.
Puree the watermelon and lime juice in a food processor or blender. Strain it after to get rid of any seeds. Add the tequila and stir!
Pour into your molds, and stick in the freezer for a good 10 hours or more – overnight is best!
Peach Vodka Pops
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup vodka
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 4 ripe sliced peaches
- 8 – 10 strawberries, tops cut off
Instructions
Combine the water and sugar in a pot to make simple syrup using the same process as the first recipe (minus the mint). Then, blend the simple syrup, peaches and vodka in a blender and pour into your molds.
Chop the strawberries into small pieces and place them on top of your molds for a chunky treat!
Freeze at least 10 hours.
Voila! These are just as tasty as they look, and make the perfect treat for upcoming Fourth of July festivities. We hope you enjoy them as much as we did.
XOXO
