Traveling with my S.O is my favorite, and based on a recent survey on our Instagram y’all prefer it too over traveling with your whole family or your besties! It’s especially fun when I get to travel with him and my pups, and that is why Lively Beach on Mustang Island is one of my favorite places for a weekend getaway.
As I get older, it has gotten harder for me to travel with just anyone – our vibes have to be aligned or the trip isn’t going to be enjoyable. I like traveling with people who love to eat great food, drink good wine or cocktails, have a good time but know when to call it at early night so the next day can be enjoyable. This time around we invited another couple to our dog-friendly Mustang Island trip and it was so much fun – finding people you can travel with is truly the best, and our dogs enjoyed having a new friend to play with.
Where To Stay
Lively Beach is a resort condominium just steps from the beach. The resort provides a unique balance between upscale amenities and thoughtful eco-friendly touches. Lively Beach features private and secluded walkable beach access, a resort-style pool, rooftop decks, a grilling and fire pit area, and more!
Their condos feature full kitchens, spacious rooms and most importantly, many of the units are dog friendly!
Lively Beach is truly the perfect place to unplug and recharge – you can make your meals and not have to leave during your stay, or you can choose to explore dining destinations in the area. My preference is to explore for breakfast and coffee, and then stay by the beach or pool for the rest of the day.
Lively Beach is located in Mustang Island, TX – just a short drive from Corpus Christi. It’s about a 3h45 – 4hr min drive from Houston (without traffic). We left at 4PM on a Friday and only stopped once for gas and snacks, we were at our condo by 8PM!
You can also fly into Corpus Christi International airport (CRP) – Southwest, United and American have flights into the island.
What to do around Mustang Island
The #1 thing you should do in Mustang Island is RELAX and enjoy the beach. We would wake up, make coffee at the condo, take the dogs out for a walk and get ready for breakfast.
A few of the top coffee and breakfast spots in the area,
- Island Joes Coffee and Gallery (my favorite)
- Coach’s Island Grill
- JB’s German Restaurant & Bakery
- Atomic Omelet & Grill
After breakfast we’d come back to Lively Beach and either walked over to the beach through the private access or hang out by their gorgeous pool. For our other meals, each couple was in charge of a lunch and a dinner – we brought burgers, fajitas, pizzas and plenty of snacks. We also brought plenty of alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages ;). We made the boys grill our meals while we played with our pups and poured the drinks. We also brought s’mores to enjoy at night when the fire pit was on.
If cooking is not your thing and you’d rather go out to eat, check out this post from our first stay at Lively Beach when they first opened with suggestions on where to eat around Corpus Christi! Also, if you are someone who can’t just lounge by the beach or pool, Lively Beach has partners for you to enjoy plenty of other activities you can do around the Island.
Our yearly retreat to Lively Beach will continue to be a tradition and we hope you get out there with your significant other (and pup) very soon! As always, if you have any questions about planning a trip to Lively Beach, slide into DMs or e-mail!
