Right after New Year’s, all the stores you frequently visit immediately switched the decor to pink, red, hearts & teddy bears. Yup, Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and apparently some people start planning for it starting January 1st.
Although I love splurging on a fabulous meal with my boyfriend, this year, I just don’t feel like doing the “romantic dinner” thing at a restaurant, so I started brainstorming and researching on what alternative activities we could do to celebrate this corny holiday.
Cook Dinner At Home
Hopefully one of you knows how to cook, and the other one can be the sous chef! You can either come up with a menu collaboratively or get yourself a cookbook and try something completely new to the two of you.
A few of our favorite cookbooks right now: Houston Cooks: Recipes from the City’s Favorite Restaurants and Chefs, Drag Queen Brunch, Shaya: An Odyssey of Food, My Journey Back to Israel: A Cookbook.

Go grocery shopping a day or two before, that way you can dive in straight to the cooking part on Valentine’s Day. And don’t forget the wine, we suggest you #treatyoself to a box of Winc wines – you can get $20 off your first box with this link!
Go On A One Night Staycation
There’s nothing quite like sleeping in a hotel bed – even if it’s in your own city! Take a break from real life and check into a hotel room with your boo. Order room service, get some strawberries and champagne & maybe even get yourself a sexy outfit 😜.

Check out some of our recent travel posts & hotel reviews if you need ideas on where to stay.
Turn Your Living Room into a Movie Theatre
I don’t know about y’all but I prefer watching movies curled up in my comfy couch than going out to the movie theatre! Spending a romantic night in this Valentine’s Day and bring the movie theatre to you – go all out on the decor and props if you’re feeling extra, and don’t forget the snacks + wine.

Have a lineup of your favorite movies or TV shows prepared; I plan on watching Narcos Mexico Season 2 😂 but if you want to keep it romantic I suggest movies like To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before, About Time, Four Weddings and A Funeral, Something’s Gotta Give, Eat Pray Love and PS: I Love You.
Take A Class
If cooking at home terrifies you, or you feel like you both need to learn a new skill, there’s nothing quite like bonding with your significant other in a class! From taking a cooking class, to going to a painting with wine class and even trying a new workout, the possibilities are infinite, and you’re going to have so much fun together.

Get Cultured
In any given city, you’ll find plenty of museums that you can visit and learn something new. Whether you’re art fanatics, science geeks, in search of the perfect ‘gram, or you simply want to check out a place in your city that you’ve never been before, a date in a museum is an excellent alternative Valentine’s Day Date. Be sure to check out if the museum you plan on visiting has any discounts for locals (they almost always do)!

Got any more ideas, babes? Please let us know in the comments!
PS: If you feel like having your boo plan the date out for you, don’t forget to share this link with them 😉
