I wish I could say that I love the summer, but it gets sooooo hot in Houston. I’m more of a Spring/Fall kind of girl, but every year when the heat rolls around I find the spots where I can beat the heat and make the best out of the summer! Thankfully there’s plenty of these places in Houston.
Make A Splash at El Segundo Swim Club
Second Ward – 5180 Avenue L
In your 30s, most of your friends have moved out of apartments and you no longer have access to pools :(. And while you save up to get a pool in your back yard, El Segundo Swim Club is where you should spend the hottest days this summer. Great vibe, delicious cocktails and a $35 cover that includes pool access, towels and sunscreen.

Have a Date Night at The Museum of Fine Arts
Museum District – 1001 Bissonnet St
Did you know admission to MFA is free on Thursdays? Parking is also free from 5-9pm on Thursday nights! Start your date night with a meal at Cafe Leonelli and then enjoy all of the amazing exhibits MFA has to offer!

Partake in an Immersive Cocktail Experience at Diversion
Spring Branch – 7202 Long Point Rd
This isn’t your average a cocktail bar, it’s an immersive cocktail experience! If cocktails for the ‘gram is your thing, then you’re going to love Diversion. This laboratory-style bar will sure make you forget that it’s 100F+ degrees outside!
Grab Coffee at La La Land Kind Cafe
The Heights – 600 N Shepherd Dr Suite 140
The cutest café has arrived to The Heights! Located at M-K-T, La La Land is a socially conscious café that prioritizes kindness, honest ingredients, and altruism above all else. This place will not only wow you with how beautiful it is, but you’ll also feel good about buying your coffee there!
Scream for Ice Cream at Amy’s Ice Creams
Montrose – 3816 Farnham St
Amy’s Ice Creams was my favorite ice cream shop when I was in college in San Antonio and I was so happy to find them in Houston! They are home to the best Mexican Vanilla Ice Cream and you’ll have so much fun watching them mix in your toppings into the ice cream!
Play Social Darts at Flight Club
Montrose – 515 W Dallas St Suite 100
This London sensation arrived to Houston a few months ago. Playing social darts is the most fun I’ve had in a bit and you can check it out with your friends or with your family, I took my dad while he was visiting and he loved it! The cocktails were fabulous and the food was delicious.
Take a Staycation at the C. Baldwin Hotel
Downtown – 400 Dallas St
I love staycations, they are so relaxing and you don’t have to deal with the stress of airports! The C Baldwin Hotel is one of the most fabulous hotels in all of Houston and their restaurant, Rosalie, has some of the best Italian food in town!

Fun #BadassBabes Fact: the hotel is named after Charlotte Baldwin Allen AKA the mother of Houston. Charlotte was a New York native who moved to Texas in 1832, she used her inheritance to finance the founding of Houston but never got any credit for it nor she could sign any paperwork at the time! Charlotte donated lots of public land to the city, even though at time she didn’t legally owned it herself.
Sip on a Margarita at Flora
Buffalo Bayou Park – 3422 Allen Pkwy
Margaritas are the perfect summertime cocktail, especially when they’re made with mezcal (I’m currently going through a mezcal obsession). Flora Mexican Kitchen is one of the prettiest restaurants in Houston, overlooking Buffalo Bayou. Although their margaritas and food are on the pricier side, it’s worth the treat if it means escaping the summer heat!
Treat Yourself to an At-Home Spa Day
Your house!
Some days, the only way to beat the Houston heat is by cranking down the temperature of your AC and having a relaxing day at home. Make your day even more relaxing with Spa Theory, a complete salon & spa in the comfort & convenience of your home! They offer massages, facials, nails, hair, makeup and even spa parties! Use code BABESXO to get 10% off your booking.
Catch Loro’s Happy Hour
The Heights – 1001 W 11th St
Loro is an Asian smokehouse and bar brought to you by James Beard Award winners, Chef Tyson Cole of Uchi and Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue. Although they have a gorgeous patio, in the summertime I suggest you eat in their gorgeous dining room which was formerly a church! Their happy hour features bites, cocktails and boozy slushies Mon-Fri from 2-6PM.

Have a sweet summertime, and stay cool, babes!

Ale
